The Head of Fleet Services (South) role opportunity is one of three similar roles which collectively manage the Porterbrook fleet portfolio leased to the Train Operating Companies (TOCs) and Freight Operating Companies (FOCs). This role has responsibility for fleets leased to Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern, South Western Railway, Greater Anglia, Great Western Railway, c2c and Chiltern Railways along with FOCs and Network Rail. The fleet mix will change over time in accordance with lease periods.
The role is accountable for coordinating engineering and asset management activities to ensure the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of all fleets throughout their full asset lifecycle in accordance with the required specifications. A key aspect of the role is also to proactively support customers in their operation of Porterbrook fleets.
Providing exceptional leadership to the team of Fleet Asset Managers, Fleet Support Engineers and also Technical Support Engineers who are remotely located at customers depots. The role also interfaces with the Commercial Manager having the same portfolio of TOCs/FOCs, who manages the customer relationship from an account management perspective. Key to the role is ensuring that customers have a single point of contact for all aspects of the fleet management. Porterbrook’s ethos is to work in close collaboration with customers.
The ideal candidate will be a Chartered Engineer with around 8 years plus fleet support experience within a rail environment. They will have excellent leadership capability, experience of managing remote based teams effectively and exposure to working within a business environment. The ability to plan and organise is critical, as well as possessing excellent stakeholder engagement skills, proactiveness and being open minded. They will be highly regarded within the rail industry and have a keen interest in innovation.
