Porterbrook Leasing Company specialises in the leasing of all types of railway rolling stock and associated equipment. The new position of Rail Bid Fleet Manager will report to the Head of Refranchising and will undertake the key role of working with the train operating companies in supporting them with bid winning propositions for their fleet plans. The role will include building deep commercial relationships with the bid teams, potential suppliers, the Department for Transport and other key stakeholders, including ensuring there is a clear timeline of opportunities in place. Other aspects of the role are to manage the customer relationship from proposal through to implementation, with an effective handover to the engineering function along with leading the refranchising process with the co-ordination between the Porterbrook teams to develop the most compelling and competitive propositions. Working closely with the franchise bid teams, this role will leverage Porterbrook’s expertise in the development of the fleet commercial strategy for its bid, and will develop the priced offers, fleet enhancement/modification programmes and ensure that all risks are clearly identified and mitigated. Post award the role will complete the contract negotiations of the lease agreements and support the mobilisation period.
The role will be based in London at modern offices near Euston Station and will require travel across the UK, or in Derby at the offices at Pride Park. This is an opportunity that is calling for an exceptional Graduate, with rail industry experience and who is regarded as exceptional in terms of their career development to date. Highly commercial, with a sound understanding of leasing is critical along with a track record of success in securing new business. The ideal candidate will have around 5 years post graduate experience working for a ROSCO, TOC or manufacturer some of which should have been within the bid environment. Experience of railway rolling stock, operating routes and the key players is also essential. Financially astute, coupled with the ability to create the most compelling propositions are all required skills along with a highly engaging personality.

The role of the Electrostar Engineering Programme Manager will be to lead and deliver the project to prepare the fleet for upcoming franchises. The main elements of the role will be to ensure that the requirements of future franchise operators are fully understood and that opportunities and alternatives are explored to give the best competitive offer. This will include development of maintenance and modification solutions, working with manufacturers, maintainers and third parties. The role demands an individual who can work on their own initiative and who can cope with ambiguity, coming up with solutions to engineering challenges that are both deliverable and commercially viable.
The ideal candidate for this role will be a Chartered Engineer with at least 8 years rolling stock engineering experience including time spent managing complex engineering projects and have been actively involved in the refranchising processes. A strong track record in developing and delivering projects, with specific experience of modern electric software-driven fleets and with manufacturer-led maintenance provision. They will also have a strong track record of developing collaborative relationships with suppliers. Organisational capability, finding innovative solutions, programme management and planning skills are key to the success of this role, along with the ability to identify issues before they emerge and take appropriate remedial action. The role can be based from Derby or London (office is close to Euston).
